Scooter rider Akram Mohamed has been cleared of causing the death of Marie Scott, the former editor of Savile Row Style Magazine, in an accident in north London. Mr Mohamed, 26, was riding a scooter on Parkhurst Road in Holloway at 2.30am on May 7, 2016 as Ms Scott, 75, was crossing the road on her way home after a night out with friends in Soho.
Mr Mohamed was found not guilty of causing death by dangerous driving. Blackfriars crown court heard Mr Mohamed told police afterwards: “She was in the middle of the road, I tried to swerve around her.” Prosecutor Ben Lloyd said police found no marks on the road to indicate Mr Mohamed had slammed on the brakes or tried to avoid the crash.
