TREASURES AT BERKELEY SQUARE FAIR
As we go to press, the wonderful LAPADA Art & Antiques Fair in Berkeley Square is just about to take place. This setting, in the heart of Mayfair and attended by the tout monde of London, has helped make it one of the most successful such fairs on the international circuit, but it is the rich treasures exhibited which ensure that it attracts serious collectors from home and overseas.
And by special arrangment, Savile Row Style readers may gain free admittance. Click on the link at the bottom of this page to go to a form that may be downloaded as an entrance ticket.
Over six days, some 15,000 visitors will see works displayed by nearly 100 top art and antique dealers. Fine English and continental furniture will be on sale, Old Master paintings plus contemporary works, an abundance of jewellery, silver, clocks and watches, sculpture, textiles, porcelain and other specially selected pieces.
All items have been examined and vetted to ensure authenticity as well as quality by LAPADA’s experts. This body is the Association of Art and Antique Dealers and has some 600 members, mainly in the UK but also in 16 other countries. It was the first antiques trade association to introduce a Code of Practice for its members, ensuring that any item may be bought with confidence in its provenance, and at a fair price.
Members must give a written invoice with contact details, and description of any item, to include notes on any major restoration or alteration since it was made.
The event gets off to a suitably sumptuous start, with an evening preview. In the four years since it was established, the fair has become one of the social highlights of London, this time with a new restaurant tier to its marquee that has a terrace overlooking the square.
After finding that perfect piece of furniture, or an heirloom gem, or just having browsed around enjoying the beauty of the exhibits, this is the spot to celebrate and enjoy the setting. It is certain to be well attended, so booking in advance is recommended at bookings@eventoracle.com. But remember to download your admittance ticket to the exhibition here.
