DIVA IN THE SPOTLIGHT
Cabaret diva, Meow Meow is the star entertainer lighting up the old Hippodrome theatre, now the new Hippodrome, on the corner of Leicester Square, and home to La Clique.
La Clique moved into this iconic building, which is undergoing a major refurbishment, last October. An exotic mix of cabaret, new burlesque, circus sideshow, and contemporary variety shows, it won the Olivier Award for Best Entertainment in March last year and now has something of cult status at the Hippodrome.
Meow Meow, billed as an 'anarchic brand of vamped-up kamikaze cabaret' has something of a wide range, from kitsch cabaret to contemporary opera. She comes to London fresh from an international tour of top dates and is at the Hippodrome until just the end of May.
La Clique will be putting on other shows up until the end of June.
The glitzy outfit, above, might take the spotlight from Ms Meow Meow. It is destined for the showbiz world - straight from Savile Row. The coat's fabric is one of the most expensive ever made, a blend of cashmere, Tasmanian lambswool and guanaco, named Guanashina. Only twenty length were made, in three colourways, so it has rarity value. Worn over a tailored sequined suit, both are by Richard Anderson.
SHAKESPEARE HITS THE ROAD
Shakespeare’s Globe theatre is hitting the road this summer, taking two of its best loved productions on a tour across the UK and Europe between May and August.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream and A Comedy of Errors are the two plays that could be coming to a theatre near you. Two troupes of eight travelling players are to reinvent the renaissance touring theatre for the 21st century, and will be performing in some wonderful venues.
Included will be the Theatre Royal in Bury St Edmunds, Ripley Castle, Harrogate, St. Augustine’s Abbey, Canterbury, Bodleian Library, Oxford, Leeds Castle, Maidstone, and Minack Theatre, Cornwall, and other sites that will provide an open-air setting for the small Elizabethan stage to be mounted.
And the troupe goes on to Austria, Germany, Poland, Norway and Malta.

Meantime, back at base camp, Thea Sharrock will be directing As You Like It at the Globe from May 30 through to October.
Special occasions at The Globe, above, or at a castle, an abbey or whereever are made more special when classic evening dress is worn, as in the one-button dinner jacket above by Ede & Ravenscroft. One-button fastening is more comfortable and casual. They offer a full bespoke service for formal evening dress.
