BESPOKE AND OTHER GOOD THINGS IN LIFE
The latest edition of Savile Row Style Magazine, launched this Summer, focuses upon bespoke tailoring but also features other topics of interest to the sort of discerning chaps who shop in the Row.
Model and celebrity, David Gandy, heads up a starry list of customers photographed in their favourite Savile Row outfits. Racing driver Ben Cussons, Cartier's chief executive UK, Arnaud Bamberger, cult poet John Cooper Clark, and retired City maestro Chris Maytum show off the variety of the Row's appeal.
Other tailoring features point up the pin-up status of the Duke 0f Edinburgh, the style requirements of the Season, an exhibition success in the countryside, and the lasting influence of Hollywood glamour on the Row.
The aim of the magazine, as stated by Editor Marie Scott, is to refocus attention upon Savile Row and encourage a wider appreciation of bespoke's quality.
"There's a younger generation coming up who want quality in their clothes as well as style - and are prepared to pay for it," she says.
However, there is much more in the magazine than just clothes - however important they may be. Robin Dutt gives the low-down on London's finest cocktail bars, Gary Rennay advises on how to fit that new suit, and a coterie of top dealers reveal what and where to collect. The Editor testifies to the gold that glisters in Burma.
Fine wine goes together with a fine suit, with news in this issue on the summer preference for Pink Champagne. It used to be said that you could tell a gentlemen by his shoes and the finest of bespoke footwear is presented here.
The latest of many luxury property developments in Mayfair is revealed; all manner of watches from this summer's watch fair in Basel cater for the ever-increasing numbers of timepiece connoisseurs; the Queen at Polo - and at the Races...
The prevailing focus is upon up-market quality products, services and events, all aimed at those with a discerning taste that is best revealed in their preference for a fine Savile Row suit.
The next edition, Autumn/Winter, will be published in October. There will be more on bespoke and textiles and what the Row is doing, and on travel, wine, gifts, accessories, property and cultural and sporting events.
But just exactly what we won't know until nearer the time. Savile Row Style Magazine is a living and evolving publication, reflecting craftsmanship and the enjoyment of fine living. We hope you will join us.
