YACHT BUSINESS IS SWELL

CAVENDISH White reports record sales of yachts in the first quarter of this year - with charters also up. This company has built up a considerable reputation as a yachting broker over the past 20 years, with offices in Fort Lauderdale, the French Riviera and a new one in Dubai, as well as one in Surrey.

They will arrange the building of yachts anywhere in the world, working closely with clients to their requirements. They also sell and charter yachts.

This fabulous vessel.'The World is Not Enough', built by Millenium Yachts , is claimed to be the world's fastest yacht, has 5 staterooms and boasts 'absolute luxury'. Price 28M dollars from Cavendish White.

It says much for the state of the seas that business is healthy and the company has high hopes for their showing at the Dubai Boat Show, taking place April 14th -18th.

A CLUTCH OF 'CAPTAINS' IN SYNDICATE

FANCY a three-year stint of life on the ocean waves in your very own luxury yacht? Well, not quite your own - as part of a syndicate.

This is a Sun Reef  74 catamaran available for charter from Quantum Blue

The yacht in question is still in the process of being built, at a cost of 3.5M euros, and is very much a super-duper vessel. A 74ft catamaran, it will offer the last word in nautical luxury, we are told, and is to be available to a syndicate of owners when it is completed next year.

The brainchild of Bristol-based David Mackwood and his wife Brigid, the ship bears the name of their company, Quantum Blue. It will circle the globe, with a professional crew of four, including David as captain, his wife the gourmet chef, a first mate and stewardess.

The price of the vessel will determine the cost to each of those who sign up as part-owners, divided between 4-6 signatories. Each will have their own luxurious suite. Already, two have been signed up, one on behalf of an international conglomerate for corporate hospitality, the other a U.S. businessman looking to travel the world in style. At the end of three years, the yacht will be sold and the proceeds divided up between the syndicate.

"The aim is that the syndicate will comprise a company of like-minded travellers," David Mackwood explains, " who can decide where they want to go and where the ship should put in. They can stay aboard all the time, if they wish, or join it at different stages of the journey. Their personal effects will be locked in the suites in their absence, so that they can travel to and from it without heavy luggage."

Quantum Blue provides a neat solution for yacht fans seeking exclusive travel with a personal touch. We just hope that the syndicate 'captains' will be able to plot their course amicably - or David Mackwood may have to exercise his authority as Captain in Chief.

SAILING is for pleasure - whereas all too often flying is for business. With increasingly crowded scheduled lines and airports, the trend has been for businessmen to opt for charter jets or preferably the company jet. Now a new service aims to widen the scope and help companies reduce the costs of maintaining an aircraft.

Bookajet has its own fleet of aircraft that may be chartered, plus helicopters and limousines for transfers, and priority check-in and VIP security services. To these it has added a management service for companies that will aim to fully utilize their aircraft.

Under-used jets can be booked through Bookajet, who take over all responsibilities and tailor requirements to each client. It's a scheme that should earn brownie points for boards with shareholders who query the cost of a personal jet. www.bookajet.com

:: Fly to the World Cup::

CLUB 328 offers a range of private aircraft for charter, operating out of London and regional airports, and has teamed up with sports events company ATP to provide a smart way for fans to get the World Cup.

Prices on scheduled airlines are expected to be high for peak times and certainly for the England matches, so the hire of an executive jet is not such an extravagant option. Shared between 6, 8, 10 or 15 passengers, the price can be as little as £700 for a return fare to Germany, based upon 15 sharing. www.club328.com
