GERMANY ONTO A WINNER

The Seabob powering through the waves.

WORLD Cup Fever has centred attention upon Germany – and prompted wider interest in Germany and all things German, not least at a 'German by Design' promotion taking place at Harrods this Summer.

This covers all sorts of sports, fashion and technology and one of the eye-catching items on sale is the Seabob, a water bobsleigh that will have water sports enthusiasts drooling.

It provides amazing agility, whether whizzing over the water at speeds of up to 20km/h, taking a gentle glide or diving to depths of up to 40 metres. Its sleek hydrodynamic shape is powered by an electric jetstream system under international patent, claimed to make it more efficient than others on the market, and it is environmentally friendly and inexpensive to run. Furthermore, it is completely emission-free, virtually silent and maintenance-free.

Exclusive to Harrods in the UK, this example of modern German design and quality is available in three models, and five colours, prices starting from £5,299.

BRITISH YACHT BUILDER AFLOAT

FROM speed boats to motor yachts. Pearl is a comparatively young British boat building company, launched in 1997 and now based just outside Stratford-upon-Avon. It has grown rapidly and offers a range of multi-stateroom yachts, both for sale and to charter, and has built up a dealer network through France, Spain and Portugal as well as the UK.

Its latest model, the Pearl 50 has just been launched, to much acclaim. Managing director, Ian Smallridge, is understandably pleased. "Never before has this level of super yacht quality and design been available in this class of vessel," he says modestly.

The Pearl 60 is the flagship of the range, offering a variety of alternative layouts, just under 18 metres in length, with a cruising speed of 24 knots and maximum of 32 knots.

Prices range from around £600,000 to £1m. Pearlmotoryachts.com

We are talking serious speed here in boats with high quality design and construction. First to arrive will be the S-24, a 24-foot powerboat. Other sizes go up to 31ft, and from 45 to 75-plus knots. Prices range for £42,590.00 up to around just over the £111,000 mark. John.Webb@Hydrolift.co.uk
